Speed Dating Questions To Use For Conversation Starters

It is increasingly difficult for individuals to meet up with others of the opposite sex. This could be because they are either too focused on their careers or they have become so used to communicating via high tech machines that they have lost the art of communicating one to one with another person.

Speed dating is a revolutionary new concept that was introduced by a Rabbi in 1998. He did this to make it easier for the singles in the Jewish community to come together and get to know each other in a large city like New York where they were a minority. This concept was a huge success and is rapidly gaining popularity in all major cities where individuals are career driven and need to do everything in the least time possible.

Speed dating is a surprisingly simple system. Individuals of the opposite sex are set up to meet each other in social settings, which could be a formal or informal party held at a restaurant or a bar. Given that everyone present here is looking for a partner, you know that you can safely chat with every one present without getting rebuffed. Also all participants are genuinely looking for a partner and would be sure to have honorable intentions.

A speed-dating event is essentially a series of mini dates. All participants get to talk to members of the opposite sex for about 3- 8 minutes in an attempt to get to know them better. They can chat about any mutually interesting topic or ask any questions they want. But participants are advised not to reveal too many personal or financial details that could compromise their security. Only when two individuals are found mutually interested in each other are contact details exchanged so the two of them can arrange dates at any place and time they choose.

Since time is limited it is important to give a good impression as well get to know as much as you can about the other person in as short a time as possible. The right questions will help you increase the chances of getting a right match. During these mini speed-dating sessions, asking wrong questions could be a waste of time and tell you nothing about the other person, making you lose a potentially interesting person.

Asking open-ended questions requires well thought of answers and takes the conversation places. Asking questions that require just yes-no answers will lead to nothing and the person at the other end could just nod or shake their head in reply, ending the conversation there and then.

Refrain from asking too personal questions that the other may hesitate to answer at a first meeting with a total stranger. Save those for a later date, when you get to know each other better and feel more comfortable with trusting each other.

You should make an attempt at finding out the other person’s interests. Though it sounds clichéd, this is the best way to know if both of you have anything at all in common or not. You can be sure the other person will answer as honestly as possible as they too are looking for somebody to spend time with and wouldn’t want to lie and therefore waste time with the wrong person.
