The most commonly used flower design for tattoo is the rose. The meaning of the rose as tattoo is love. In the past the roses were tattooed to persons sentenced to death. Today it is different. The symbolism for the rose is passion, love, and purity. The rose is a flower given to the ones who we love as a symbol of our passion and purity.

In the eastern regions, the rose is not used as a flower which symbolizes such feelings. Instead, tattoos with design of a lotus were used for this purpose. But the meaning of the lotus is not only love and purity. The lotus symbolizes a lot of other things such as beauty, peace, goodness and fortune. And because of this the lotus tattoo is very popular.

Other flowers which are very popular for applying as tattoo are the acacia. This flower means love and friendship. There is also a flower called bells of Ireland.
